F.A.C.E.S.

Recognizing and celebrating the success of our students can serve as reinforcement for the positives that exist, and a motivational tool for others. The F.A.C.E.S. (Family, Academics, Community, Extra-Curricular, Self) Program provides an opportunity for A.C.H.S. to send a message to our students, their families, and the community that we see and appreciate the efforts students generate to help our school become the best it can be. When we recognize things such as academic achievement, attendance, positive behavior, and other "winning" characteristics, we clarify the things that we value and we encourage an increase in these behaviors. The five awards given encompass the components of the F.A.C.E.S. program. Schools are sometimes criticized for giving recognition to only the most talented athletes, scholars, musicians, etc. It is important to note that every component of the F.A.C.E.S. Program is designed so that virtually any student can earn both recognition and tangible prizes. A student need not be “extremely talented” in order to exhibit a good attitude, good attendance, a good work ethic or a kindness toward a peer. Yet these characteristics are precisely those which most businesses and employers today are seeking. Through F.A.C.E.S. our school hopes to give its students a head start in developing these essential qualities.

ACE OF DISTINCTION

The Ace of Distinction award is given once per grading period (quarterly). Each teacher will nominate one male and one female student from their classes. Toward the end of each grading period, teachers will receive a nomination form and choose the students whom they feel model success. Of course, to define a successful student is not an easy thing to do. Academic achievement, attendance, behavior, and positive role modeling are just some of the criteria teachers will consider when making these quarterly nominations. One male and one female will be chosen from the teacher nominations for each class/grade, and Mr. Boring will take those students out to lunch.

ATTITUDE AWARD

The Attitude Award is a monthly award that will be used to promote a high standard for interpersonal relationships. Every month, Mr. Boring will ask teachers, via email, to nominate students they have “caught in the act” of exhibiting a positive attitude toward others. Two of our rules at Amanda-Clearcreek High School are:

1) Treat others as you would have them treat you.
2) Always do your best.

These two rules will serve as the guidelines to making the nominations for the Attitude Award. Every student who has been nominated will be entered into a drawing, and the winner of the drawing will receive gift certificates in the amount of $50 that can be used at various businesses in our area. Every student nominated during the year will be eligible for a Grand Prize drawing at the end of the year. In years past, Grand Prize winners have won DVD players, televisions and personal computers.

ATTENDANCE AWARD

The Attendance Award is also given every month. For this award, a student's name is drawn from our enrollment cards in the office. If the student whose name is drawn has perfect attendance for the preceding two-week period, that student will win a $20 gift certificate for the River Valley Mall.

Success at school can be contagious. Through the F.A.C.E.S. Program A.C.H.S. has an opportunity to send a clear message to every student that we believe the personal qualities of good attendance, academic effort, good citizenship, and kindness toward others are essential to success as an adult.
